Rock School
Five days of rock climbing in various locations across Western NC. Day one focuses on an overview of the climbing merit badge. The scouts then take those skills and test them at the chosen climbing crags. The locations include some of the Southeast’s most notorious walls, including: Looking Glass, Rumbling Bald, Table Rock, the Chimneys, and other notable climbing sites.
The evenings are used either to travel between rock faces, or are spent enjoying the area by swimming, hiking, sightseeing, or just bouldering and learning more about rock climbing.
Due to the level of physical and mental maturity required, requirements for the trip are that all participants must be either 14 years of age with the climbing merit badge or at least 15 years of age. Participants should also be able to do 2 pull-ups and 20 pushups. We will furnish all harnesses, helmets, and climbing hardware. Scouts are highly encouraged, but not required, to bring their own climbing shoes to take full advantage of the climbing opportunities.
Scouts should be prepared for climbing, backpacking, and swimming. Also, dinner out is an option on some nights. Participants who do not already have the climbing merit badge will earn it during the week.
